SPOTlite – February 2019
This month, we had a sit-down and got to know first-time father and Star Wars Fan, Muhammad Fadzly from TELICA. The force is strong in this one.
Fadzly is one of Xcellink’s Network Technician deployed to work at Woodlands Datacenter. His scope of work includes monitoring a 24/7 island-wide network remotely and patching, configuring, maintaining network switches. Fadzly works together with his team to manage requests from the client and other vendors as well as to solve any Level 1 issues that might occur.
Qn 1. How does technology interest you?
Fadzly – I’m fascinated by how efficient it is. Technology has made our daily lives easier as now, we can control our appliances remotely with just a single tap on our phones. Unfortunately, it has made us lazier too. Haha.
Qn 2. What skill would you want to pick up that you think would benefit you in your career?
F – CCNA and maybe other professional certifications. I’d like to venture deeper into Networking as I think that is one of the fundamentals of IT. Of course, there are other things that I would like to take up, but one thing at a time.
Qn 3. Have you faced any challenges whilst working here and how do you think this has helped you in other areas of your life?
F – Yes, it has made me be more patient and calmer in making critical decisions. When most of the equipment is down and needed to be diagnosed and resolved within a limited time period, being in a state of panic will cloud your judgement. It definitely comes in handy when dealing with my new-born baby girl.
Qn 4. What is your proudest moment at Xcellink?
F – I think being nominated in SPOTlite as I have never been nominated for something this big. Haha. It’s very humbling and I’m very grateful for the recognition.
Qn 5. What is your passion outside of work?
F – Assembling and collecting model figurines like Gundam and Star Wars. I have six Darth Vader figurines. Safe to say it’s my favourite Star Wars character.
Qn 6. What have you always wanted to try but never had the chance to?
F – Surfing. I’ve only ever tried body surfing when I was in Bali. It was a thrilling experience, even though I fell off several times and almost drowned.
Qn 7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
F – Honestly, I’m not an overly ambitious person. I am contented with where I am right now. I like to grab opportunities as and when it presents itself. Realistically, I prefer to prioritize other important things in life such as spending time with my family.
